Authoritative Parenting Style Is Currently The Most Dominating Parenting Style
Spare the rod and spoil the child. This saying seems to have goaded many parents into adopting authoritative parenting style in which the parent is the supreme commander of his force of children who is to be obeyed unquestioningly. It is for good reason that the authoritative parenting style is currently the most dominant parenting style and it is also the healthiest form of parenting which in turn is affected by factors such as responsiveness as well as by the demanding nature of the protagonists.
Different Responses
Parents are seldom known to respond in the same way to their children’s desires, interests as well as their misdemeanors. In fact, the authoritative parenting style is actually a rather more balanced parenting style than any other style on account of the fact that this one parenting style that balances those two elements: demanding nature of protagonists and responsiveness.
The main benefit to opting for the authoritative parenting style is that this form of parenting encourages enforcement of rules that are made in order to protect the children from being harmed. So, the authoritative parenting style can be likened to guiding a young child to walk safely on the road as well as to remain on the right path in life and also involves clearly inculcating in the child’s mind the difference between good and bad.
In fact, authoritative parenting style is able to enforce rules in a more consistent manner and though this enforcement of rules must not and should not lead to rigid enforcement of rules it must nevertheless clearly show to the child what is good and what is bad and to take into account that children will often make mistakes and so this should be taken into consideration.
The right way to use authoritative parenting style is to make allowances when a child makes mistakes and to also use reason to help the child return to the right path. In addition, the parent must set a good example for their children to follow and parents must also be ready to admit to their own mistakes to show that the world and the parents are imperfect and that making mistakes is a normal thing. It is the ability to rise from failure that is the key to succeeding in life.
Fortunately, there are different parenting styles that a parent can choose from. This means that parents are able to use a particular parenting style that suits them, their children and the family values that the parents wishes to teach to their children.
